- Bristol Fashion hosts GOLD party for LABBS 50th Anniversary

Thursday 16th July saw representatives from 5 choruses in the
wider Bristol area gather to sing and celebrate 50 years of female barbershop singing with the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers.
With a delicious, chocolate and gold birthday cake - baked by BF's Lucy Howard. Guests came adorned in gold and had a chance to sing the new polecat of Spandau Ballet's hit song - GOLD! - we all knew it would be a super evening and it really was.
Events were kicked off with a welcome from BF's chair person, Fliss Proctor, and then performance lead for BF, Debbie Trotman (DT) led the gathered guests through a fun routine featuring moves to represent each chorus! The excited sheep was particularly memorable!
With performances from each group, polecat singing, a fantastic rendition of Happy Birthday, a photo wall and plenty of time to socialise the singers discovered - it seemed - their very own anthem of 'Happy Together' by the Turtles. With promises to gather at Convention 26 in the Afterglow as well future socials and celebrations (Bristol Fashion are turning 50 in 2027) the night was a roaring success.

We love singng in a new venue and St. Helen's at Alveston was a pure delight.
Admittedly, the glorious sunshine - possibly the only sunlight we saw in February - was so blinding through the church's glass windows that we struggled to see Assistant Muscial Director, Caroline Bamford for a few minutes. But it was worth the glare to be able to arrive in hoodie and jeans - rather than the highly necessary padded winter coats of the past few months.
Singing for approximately an hour - our audience were highly appreciative, enjoying in particular our renditions of Worse Things, The Road Home and Take it to The Limit. To be honest - we all enjoyed ourselves.In-house quartet 'SPECS APPEAL' also took to the floor with 2 super songs that they are preparing for their Ladies of Association of Barbershop Singers Quartet competition this coming June.
The afternoon concluded with the obligatory tea and cake, chatter with the audience and a pleasant drive back to Bristol as the sun went down.

Last Saturday saw the chorus gather for a Performance
Workshop on our latest song- And You Don't Even
Know It - from the hit musical 'There's Something
About Jamie'.
Led by our Performance Director, Debbie Trotman,
the chorus brought some sass and sparkle to this
inspiring song about being true to yourself and
celebrating your identity.
Over the two hours the chorus explored a range of set
'moves' as well as opportunities to 'freestyle' on
common themes: who they were singing to, the message
and the mood.
The chorus had so much fun and the final performance is
promising to be spectacular!
